What's the cheapest generation ipad that's any good.

Looking for an ipad for my 80yr old mum, don't want to spend a lot, but don't want to buy one that is too obsolete. She will use it for Internet, games, Facebook, messenger etc

Anyone?

4th gen IPad is a bit slow and a perfectly decent machine, but is no longer supported and can't run the latest Software, so it will be 5th generation onwards if you want to stay current
I bought a cheap 2nd hand 4th gen Ipad (from Computer Exchange) but found it wouldn't run Kindle app and and a couple of other things. Ended up buying 6th gen last year on offer at £295. I think I'm right in saying you can't run WhatsApp properly on an IPad
A similar sized android tablet (9.5" screen) will cost about £200.
