If I were you I would ring the company accountant and have a chat with them before you open the software package. When we went VAT registered our accountant advised us which package to buy, (through them actually as it was much cheaper), so that they could load it at the end of year and pull off what they need. Also, if you have any queries regarding the software they would be able to help you if it is a package they use themselves!

Btw the software does all the return itself, and is rather helpful once you get the hang of it!!

Also, I forgot to say, check with your accountant about what to enter regarding the start of the year. You may need to enter your invoices you haven't been paid for and bills you haven't yet paid so that it balances iyswim. Our accountant, (well his wife actually), came and did it for us -it did cost a bit but they wouldn't expect me to know how to do it and get it right, especially with the VAT date cutting in.
