Anyone know anything about telescopes?

Hello!

I'd like to buy my partner a telescope for his birthday. Ideally £100 or less at the mo until i know more about them, how they work, and if he'll actually use it enough!

Does anyone know any good makes for a beginner?

Thanks Grin

I've often read that instead of a budget telescope, a good quality pair of binoculars is preferable.

Yes, agree with thegoatishere. Friend who is a really good amateur astronomer recommends a good pair of binoculars over a cheapish telescope - plus you can use them terrestrially as well.

For your budget, binoculars are best. You need to spend more than £100 to get a decent telescope.

Some general advice here from a seller, along with plenty of choices to give you an idea of budget:

Your thread has now cost me £100 - just ordered these:

Thank you for the advice! I definitely want to buy a telescope, but because it's a gift plus he's a total beginner I didn't want to spend too much. There are a lot out there for £100 or less, are you saying there's no point in looking into these?
