Anyone able to give me some advice to help the kids download their school work. Our computer has windows 10 but no powerpoint, no idea why not but we cant view all the work attached on SMH.

I have therefore downloaded power point mobile so I can now open/view PPT but it still wont open PPTX documents. Any suggestions for recommendations of what to do or where I can go for help.

I don't need to use/edit powerpoint just view the documents.

Many thanks.

Try google drive, followed by google slides, if you're just using it to view powerpoint presentations.

Do the kids have an office 365 log in from school?

myangelalex · 02/05/2020 21:35

Office 365 free trial. Just make sure you cancel it. Took me months to get my money back.

Squidsister · 02/05/2020 21:41

At our school the children can log into Office 365 using their school email and log in. Does your school have this?

2ndStar · 02/05/2020 21:47

OP. If school doesn’t provide office 365, ask the teacher to save it and upload it as ppt. Tell them why. It makes no difference to the document.

Xsquared - thanks I will try that

2ndstar - thanks, yes kids have office 365 for free but I asked their school and they said I cant just load the power point part of it. Our computer has all the other parts of office on and I am concerned to load 365 it all in case all emails/word docs etc are lost/overwritten. No idea if that is likely as I have no technical knowledge hence the post here. No idea why the computer has everything except powerpoint on it.

If you set up another account on the computer for your child then get them to log in to office 365 on the browser, you should be able to set up their profile with free office that comes with the Edu account.

Good old Microsoft have killed PowerPoint Viewer which I was going to recommend.

So instead, how about OpenOffice, which is a free and compatible office suite that'll open pptx and all the other Office files?

Thanks I could ask the schools to send as PPX but my kids are all at different schools so across several secondary schools so maybe 50 teachers so I would prefer not to be that parent.

Squidster - that may be an option never tried that route as we just go into SMH and open it on browser

Use PowerPoint online. You can upload the file to onedrive and then open it in PowerPoint online.

PerspicaciaTick · 02/05/2020 23:08

Download LibreOffice - it is a wholly free suite of software that can handle all Office file types.

No they won't be lost or overwritten. Installing a full copy of 365 will keep all your existing data.

Openoffice gets my vote, too. It's excellent and free.

springsummer22 · 03/05/2020 21:49

Sorted. Thank you all so much for your time. Much appreciated.
