Spotify - upgrading from individual to family

Hi,
I've recently paid for Spotify premium individual plan and am a week into it, but DS(15) has just asked me to get him Spotify for when he goes for a run. I am not sure I can switch from individual to family - is it just selecting the "Get Started" button on this page?

It says on the page if you already have a premium account, you can invite members of the family to premium as well but I'm not quite sure how to do that. Will I be charged for both accounts for this month or will I just pay the difference of £5 between the 2 plans even though I've already started the first one?

I would really appreciate if someone can explain this to me please as I don't want to accidentally end up paying £25 for two accounts.

Thanks in advance.

walks you through the whole thing and answers your questions.

TL;DR? You can upgrade, won't lose out, and can have six people on your single Family subscription.

If he just wants to listen to it occasionally and you don't at the same time, he could use your account? My DH just upgraded to the family plan - I think you just go into your account and change the plan then it gives you a link to send to other family members.

Oh gawd don't do that, pay the extra fiver and let him have his own login.

I tried to share mine and it just kicks the other person out all the time

Neither of us want to share an account so I do intend to go for the Family option.

My question is, if I upgraded now, will it just mean that i have to pay the difference or because I have used a week of the individual plan, I will have to pay £9.99 for that and £14.99 for the family one?

Also, do I need to cancel the premium individual one first and start again with family premium to upgrade? Is there a way I can just click add family members iyswim?

My DH just upgraded. He just got charged the family for that month. not the individual as well.

Just to note, we invited my dad and he couldn’t log in at first because location services could tell he was registering for the first time from a different address. So we changed the address on our account to my Ddads and it worked!

Okay thanks Duchess, that makes sense.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
