I keep getting a message up from bottom tool bar telling me I have a security fisk.
We have Norton but this ,what I am supposing is a virus, has somehow stopped the live update running and we can't get any thing to run properly. anyone any ideas how i can fix this. Thanks in advance

Okay, so the message on the bottom bar - is it from Norton, there is a virus which shows up this particular message exhorting you to click okay and when you do it downloads bad things.

Why don't you download Software AGs AVG antivirus - it's free - here's a link to it - click to download -- run that, it'll nix the bad thing. Then we can sort out your Norton issue.

Thanks for that advice . I have saved the link to my desktop as my Dh says I should wait til he gets back from work so he can have a look at it . I think he doesn't trust me .I am only a woman!!!

It may not be a virus, it might be that your firewall software has expired. Is it due for renewal? I use McAfee suite, similar method to Norton. If you right click on your Norton icon and check properties, are any of the modules disabled?

My subscription does not run out until October , but it won't let me run liveupdates as it says they are already running. Also it is showing a red cross and tells me I'm at risk cos I need protection updates
This has all happened since my 16yr old son got a virus for us ,how kind

WMMC- I took the bull by the horns and just did the AVG thing . It got rid of 7 trojan horses!!! I still cannot get liveupdate to run on Norton though , I think they must have a software problem . Thanks again I sometimes wish i was better with all this computer stuff .I did an ECDL , not much cop really ,but looks good on your CV I suppose

I had the same problem, we had to manually update our virus protection, etc, on the norton website as nothing we did made any difference. When we renewed our subscription and reinstalled it the problem went away though

whomovedmychocolate · 17/08/2007 22:58

You need to reinstall Norton - if any of the trojans have affected it (and they probably will have) it will be running silent (ie it looks like it's working but it's completely banjaxed!) Is your DH suitably shamed by your obvious technical superiority?

flossie64 · 18/08/2007 17:39

Trying to re-install Norton , but we are still getting errors!?
I will see how it goes over the weekend and then panic if it doesn't sort itself out.

norton did this to us when it expired
totally messed our system up
i got rid of nortion and got AVG for frree

Norton isn't very good tbh. You really would be better with ad aware, avg anti virus and a free firewall.
