Best photo software for begginer

I have just dug out my digital SLR...got it 18 mths ago but been too busy to use it! Want a software package that is user friendly, won't scare me , and is not mega expensive as just starting out and dont want to waste money. so any recommendations please? TIA

Try Picasa - you can download it free from here. It's made by Google and is simple but still has toys to play with like turning photos black and white/grainy etc.
