HELP I/O Error on a SD card

I have tried using my printer to view and save photos from the SD card to my computer. I have 2 cards, one works, one doesn't.

I can view the photos on the camera but not from the printer. I can't use the cable that came with the camera either as it just tells me to insert card into disk F (or somewhere similar)

Is there anyway to fix the card or even to print the pictures already on the card? I think there is over 100 photos

I did go to a local computer shop to ask them today. The man said it can't be saved because 'its like one of those card thingies in mobile phones'
He also said the photos can't be printed in a shop as they can only be viewed on the camera as they are stored there? I was under the impression they are stored on the card!

It might be worth speaking to a computer geek, or find a camera geek who actually knows what he is talking about. The difference between cameras and phones, is that in most phones you can actually store data in the phone rather than on the SIM. I don't think you can in cameras (mine certainly doesn't have a storage memory other than the memory card). If the photos were stored in the camera, then you could remove the card and still view the pictures. If you can't do that, the photos are on the card.

Do you have a friendly local photographer you could ask for advice? I found my local photographer more helpful than the camera shop when I had problems with an SD card. Or if you know someone who has a camera that takes the same type of SD, try that: a different camera may enable to access the pics through the computer.

do you have everything you need to see your pics installed on your computer ? i stick my card directly into my printer and it transfers them to my adobe folder.

Have you tried with a card reader, or am I missing the point? Definitely worth a try I would have thought.

Another thought - uninstall and then reinstall the camera software on your computer: there could be a software glitch that prevents the computer from 'speaking' to the camera when that particular card is in the camera.

I didn't think to try the card in someone elses camera, will try that.
My SD card slots into my printer and saves to the computer that way.
The computer shop man told me that I should format the card but that it would lose all the photos. But, he said it may enable me to use the card in future. I don't want to format it as I know the photos will be gone for good then.

My MIL has a computer that lets you put the SD card in and should read it from there, worth a try anyway. My dad might have that too, can't remember though.

Thanks for the suggestions, I just checked this thread to see I had any replies on the off chance, wasn't expenting any tbh!

(Am off on holiday tonight so I won't be able to try it for a couple of weeks.)
