Ipod/Walkman?? What should I buy?

I am looking at getting dp an I-pod or something like for his birthday next week, can anyone advise on what's good? I have a sony walkman mp3 already which am v happy with apart from the fact that am getting increasingly frustrated that the rest of the world seems to own i-pods making it difficult for me to copy their music! So, what are I-pods like? An i-pod or a sony? If I get an I-pod what accessories do I get included? Best place to buy from? etc etc

John Lewis sell ipods now. The shuffle looks nice, but has minimal controls (you can't pick a song), so the nano might be good? I've only ever had ipods (ok, now I have a Sony Walkman phone, which is great, and takes ipod format music, too!).

I didn't get ipod as its not compatible with my music download site, an ipod can only download from itunes.Depends if you want to pay for your tracks/only transfer CDs or use one of the illegal free sites...

oh & napster are doing a free mp3 player if you sign up for a 6 mnth contract for &15. per month.

ipod - definitely - i have only just got one and love it - 30gb video ipod, bought for £120, also got an itrip so i can now sing along really badly to all my songs without disturbing anyone!!!

Itunes software very good, and there are some illegal download sites that are compatible, however i'm a bit scared and havent yet done it!
