My mac keeps crashing!

Since they are supposed to be the most stable platform you can get, I wondered if anyone else has experienced this, and what turned out to be the cause.

Dh does all the maintenance on it, and he did install a 'main menu' program and upgrade parallels around the time that my problems started, but he's now removed both of these and it's still happening.

He's now talking about rebuilding the machine from scratch, but I'd rather we just sorted out the cause if we can find it.

Also, when it does crash, it gives the option of seeing a report on it, but nothing happens when I select this option. Does anyone know why?

what do you use it for mainly?

It's a mac book pro, bought new at Christmas, so the software is up to date (remind me how to check which version?).

I usually have mail, firefox, skype and messenger open, and sometimes i-photo or i-tunes.

have you got norton?

my mac started freezing up and crashing. This got consistently worse.

Turned out it was the processor in my case (ie the most expensive part of the machine!) Hope it's not that for you.

Macs aint what they used to be anyway.

from my limited knowledge (via dh) new macs and os systems programmes can crash now without whole thing going down

have used macs for nearly 15 years and do find them stable

if a restart doesnt sort it out i am stumped personally...

i can ask dh when he gets home but thats hours and hours away am afraid...

I guess if it was that aDad then it would still be covered under warranty, but would be hassle nonetheless.

Not sure if it's Norton or another one (or several) that I've got casbie, but dh is an IT consultant, so there's no way he'd leave me open to virus's.

dh has been doing some reading, and apparently one of the recent system updates has been causing problems in mac book pros, and apple are working on a fix for it (not bloody fast enough IMO). Hopefully it will just turn out to be this.

on a MacBook pro but it's been rock solid... ...even with all the dodgy stuff I've got installed on it... ...oh I've got Parallels running as well with no probs (Version 3.x)
