Smart tv won’t connect to our dvd player

We’ve an LG smart tv and. An older style DVD player but my husbands connected it as per YouTube instructions and it just won’t detect it!
Any ideas?
Do we need a new DVD’s player?

What type of connection does the DVD player have? SCART? HDMI? How has your husband connected it to the TV?

There's been no change in the ability of TVs to display standard DVD player signals, so unless it's bust there's no point buying a new one.

If it's cabled (and TV is switched to the right input!) and not working - try connecting it to any other TV, or swapping the cable out for a known good one. It should be easy enough to work out which of the three things (DVD, cable, TV) isn't playing ball.
