3G Mobile Internet - can't get 3G connection - Help!

Can anyone help... I have a Mobile Internet connection device (from Vodafone) which uses the 3G network. It can not locate any 3G signal at my home, while driving around my village or neighbouring village.
Vodafone 3G coverage map indicaates I am in 3G coverage area, but I don't get any connection to 3G network. Any ideas?
The device is new today, not used 3G services before.
May need to use Vodafone's 14 day return policy - anyone used that before, are they good at accepting returns?

We got a contract for a 3G phone last year, it was worse than bad, it would only work on the motorway. Ring Vodafone here are the numbers : 191 from your phone or (lines open 24 hours)

Tell them you need to know the truth, becaus ethe people in the shops want the commision and Lie.

Obviously that they lie in the shops is my opinion, not what you would say to the person on the phone. it's just belived them and a hard tome breaking our contract as we left returning the phone pass the 14 day return.
