iPad dock question

I have a iPad mini 2 with iOS 12.2. Any recent apps I have used show up automatically in right hand side of the dock on the bottom of the home page, Is there any way of cancelling this feature?

I know I can manually delete them, but would prefer not to have them in the first place.

Settings-General-Multitasking & Dock- turn off Show Suggested & Recent Apps
