laptop suggestions for Gcses?

Hi
Dd's laptop has given up so I need to buy her another. I have a budget of up to £500 but don't know where to start .
I'd obviously like it to be suitable to get her through Gcses and A levels. She'll use it for Netflix, Amazon prime type stuff but doesn't do gaming.
What are chrome books like? or do I need a Windows one?
anyone got their teenager a laptop that is good?

Have a word with the school and find out what they use. That was the best advice I was given.

Chrome books are great but they use a different version of word (the google equivalent) which can be a ball ache if she’s doing lots in word, power point or excel.

Hi, thanks. I'm not sure who I'd ask as no real contact with the school. I do know that they access a lot homework via Microsoft 365 online so I'm assuming she would need Microsoft word. That's helpful to consider thanks about chrome not being the best for this.

You’re welcome! I would also say chrome books won’t suit your DD, you need something with a big enough hardrive and processor to run office etc

Just to second not getting a chrome book. I know a teenager who had a lot of difficulty with uploading work using it, also with getting it to talk to printers.

I was wondering about an iPad 2018 with a keyboard case - feel like they would prefer a smaller more tablet like device.
