Transferring photos to iPad

Is there a way to transfer a large number of photos from a windows PC (running windows 10 I think) to a 4-ish year old iPad?

I naively thought I could just plug it in and copy the files over, but apparently not.

Google told me to open iTunes and do it through the “file sharing” tab, which did allow me to transfer all the photos into the “Pages” app (don’t really know what that’s for tbh), but in Pages they are only visible as sort of greyed out thumbnails and I can’t look at them properly.

Any advice gratefully received!

I used to use Dropbox to move things between pc and iPad.

Of course, Dropbox, thank you!

And thank you Tarquin Grin

I do it using iTunes, but not by file sharing - you sync the iPad and choose the photos/folders you want to add to the iPad.
Though you will need the photos to be in Pictures/Foldername, not Pictures/Foldername/Subfoldername, as these seem to get missed.

I usually only do the sync method if I have a lot of photos (eg I had over a thousand from my recent trip down the Nile). Otherwise I use an app called Simple Transfer, which can be used either to transfer photos from iPhone or iPad to the computer, or vice-versa - it copes well with 50-100 photos at a time, and probably would do more, but I’ve never tried. There’s a free version, which transfers up to the first 50 photos from any one folder, but I use the paid for one (it cost around £3, I think) which is unlimited & doesn’t have ads.
