We have a fairly new laptop with windows vista and for some reason it won't download flash- So, I go to a website where you need flash, click on the link to go to Adobe to download it but when you get to the page there is no "button" to press, like "download here" or such like. DP has looked into it a million times and he has given up but its driving me mad (I can't go on River Islands website without it!). Anyone have any suggestions or do we need to take it to a PC doctor (PC World business where we bought it from said its nothing to do with them as its software).

.. I'm ready to throw the damn thing through the windows XP!

jojosmaman · 20/06/2007 20:01

Aagggh so near yet so far! I just clicked on it and it started to down load but then said it had failed! I will have another go now and see if I can understand the trouble shooting.. I have never got that far before tho so getting excited now

Just tried again and it failed again .. I looked at the trouble shooting and it is well beyond me, it actually says not to attempt faffing with it (or words to that effect!) if you don't know what you are doing!

I think once this goes through the window I will have to get a much prettier MAC!

Thanks for the help wmmc, if you have any other suggestions I would love to hear them

OK, I've downloaded the one on your link (think you ) but I still can't see the video on YouTube that I've been trying to view. It's still giving me a link to www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Ve rsion=ShockwaveFlash which, when I have ticked the t&c box just ignores me. I've checked my IE security settings and I think they are ok.

Any ideas much appreciated.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/06/2007 20:35

What video are you trying to view? Can you tell me it's title - you've probably got a malformed link - happens a lot of utube

whomovedmychocolate · 20/06/2007 20:39

Okay Jojosmaman, my laptop power supply has bust so I have about 15 minutes before I'm offline, so let's see what we can do.

You have Windows vista right? here's macromedia's (they make Flash) help page

But most likely it's a permissions issue - is the situation that your partner has the computer set up so he's the administrator and you are another named user? If so, he needs to be logged on to install software.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/06/2007 20:39

Mrs Darcy - same to you - check you are logged in as the administrator.

mrsdarcy · 20/06/2007 20:49

Thanks Whomovedmychocolate.

I am the only person who can log into this PC, so I guess I am the administrator?

I have Windows NT.

Whenever I click on a MN link to YouTube I get the same thing - the YouTube video doesn't run as I need Flash. It's happened with about half a dozen links to YouTube, all different videos.

jojosmaman · 20/06/2007 21:33

oh no, may have missed you, have been googling about weaning! Ok I have just tried uninstalling previous flash players as this was recommended so will try it again. If no joy I will check permissions

cheers again youre a star wmmc

ok so it has downloaded it (yeay!) but I still can't see anything that uses flash (i think, eg river islands website, you tube videos etc) so I'm going to check the troubleshooting again!

Mrs Darcy - is it only utube you have the problem on, or is it flash generally, have now fixed computer power supply so am back btw?

Perhaps you have your program list set up not to use flash and use something else? Go here and see if you can see the flash icons, if so, it's a utube thing. If not, it's probably that you need to uninstall flash then reinstall it.

Unless you have a firewall or other utility prog that is preventing flash running for security reasons.

Get a Mac, life is better.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/06/2007 21:49

Jojosmaman - have you rebooted since the install, if not, do so and see if that fixes the problem!

mrsdarcy · 21/06/2007 11:06

Thanks Whomovedmychocolate. Yes, it seems that Flash is installed properly and it's just a YouTube problem. I disabled my firewall for a while whilst I installed it.

Sulking now. I wanted to get down with the kids but maybe this is cosmic forces telling me to accept that I am a sad old woman hankering after her lost youth

whomovedmychocolate · 21/06/2007 12:46

Try Google videos instead - different interface - but mostly the same content.

mrsdarcy · 21/06/2007 20:11

Hooray! Thank you very much indeed.

whomovedmychocolate · 21/06/2007 21:05

Hurrah! Now the really excellent news - Google bought youtube so soon, all youtube will be in the Google format!!!!

jojosmaman · 22/06/2007 19:50

still not working for me so I think its time I took it to PC doctor but thanks for all your help wmmc
