Spotify access in DS bedroom without phone or computer?

Just wondering if there is a way I can sort DS2 being able to listen to the playlists and music he likes on Spotify when he is doing homework or playing in his room... but not having him with an internet phone or computer in his room. Ds1 never had internet-linked devices in his room until 16 and this was a good thing for lots of reasons. But we are all rarely listening to music on CD now so I'm not sure if there is a way of him easily listening to music. Anyone have any ideas? And if it's possible what should we get? I'm thinking Christmas. I can see there are radios with Spotify but these rely on phone or tablet access. And I have found a device for smaller kids to play playlists but DS2 is ten, so too old for this.

what about a echo linked to a spotify account

Spotify works through Amazon's Alexa and the dot. You just say, play X playlist from Spotify.
The dot is definitely good enough sound, DD loves hers.

We have google home mini's in bedrooms. They access either googleplay store or spotify depending how you set them up. They don't require a device, but you can also just use them as bluetooth speakers with a device - either as a network or individually.

Ooh, watching because we have a no devices available in bedrooms rule, but a perfectly reasonable wish for music...

I've just bought an echo dot for my 7 year old for the same reasons as you outline...

We have sonos speakers through the house so ds1 has one in him room. He can start a playlist using the tablet downstairs and then skip, pause etc using the buttons on the speaker in his room (and if he still has it on when he should be asleep I can stop it from my phone! )

An Echo dot would work, but DS has one and he spends hours asking Alexa inane questions. It works as an alarm clock too though. I block it's internet access when DS is meant to be asleep.
