Yahoo has attached a contacts name to my emails.

Received a new contact recently. It is definitely not a scam.
Now all my incoming mail has this persons name in the “to” field instead of mine. When I send mail it states it is from this same person. Yahoo has changed even previous emails to the same name. I have tried deleting contact and changed my password although couldn’t see anything strange in my account. Has anyone else experienced this problem and did you solve it? Would be so grateful for any input.

Ps to the above. I am using iOS and on my iPad.

I had something sort of similar on my iPhone (but not my iPad or regular laptop).

I have two yahoo email addresses - my regular [email protected] and a separate one for things I prefer to keep separate, [email protected].

Annoyingly, when I send emails from my regular aridane yahoo address, the 'from' bit appears as my other name (though the email address remains the same). Leading to friends etc saying who on earth is yyy?!?

This only happens with my iPhone. There I downloaded the Yahoo app but I haven't on my other devices (where this doesn't happen).

Don't know how to solve either!

This seems a really common problem (having yahoo'd googled it)

Hmm this sounds strange, not sure I really understand. When you say you got a new contact, it just appeared? In your phone book or in your emails?

A similar thing once happened to me because I was linking my outlook account to a Gmail system and when a friend tried to log into their gmail on my laptop it merged our accounts. Could it be something like that?

Have you checked your own settings? Try amending your 'from' name?

Are you using Yahoo as your mail service? I would get in touch with their customer services and see what they advise

Either way, change your passwords on everything just to be sure.

Ariadne - sounds like you need to sort out your settings and add a 'from' name, otherwise it is taking the default

HappydaysArehere · 29/09/2018 09:33

Thank you so so much. I did change my password when I saw it but have had difficulty finding the from name. I managed to get into the first page of the account that has my activity and my name and details. All seemed correct but couldn’t see how to get to a from name. I will try to do this again today. The last time I logged in with password and telephone code but when it went to yahoo all I got was a lot of adverts and the top banner where I previously found my account was nowhere to be found with the exception of a John Lewis loyalty account which is linked to yahoo. It seems hit or miss whether I get into the actual account.

Now you have said you only get this problem on your iPad Aridane I will look at my lap top which is also Apple. Spanishwife, I received a call from someone representing Cass Art a firm I have been dealing with for years. I entered one of their Summer Draws and received a call from this lady who told me I had won a prize of some paints. These arrived beautifully packaged yesterday. She knew all my details. She read them out to me, email, address etc. She said she would send me an email to confirm our conversation. She did with all her contact details and this is when her name became attached to mine.
Aridane I will study your link in a couple of hours when Ihave been for my annual visit to the doctors for a flu jab! Meanwhile thank you so much for your help. I will let you know how I get on. It’s driving me mad as everyone I email sees this other name and probably thinks it’s junk.

Is there someone in real life who is more of a tech whizz that can give you a bit of coaching on getting into your account and how to manage it? Past actually sending and receiving emails, the back end stuff can be quite technical when things go wrong... Hard to advise without seeing what you are seeing!

Spanishwife. My grandson came around this morning. He is 25 so not a school boy. I explained He said “weird”. And rubbed his head. We looked into account and both names were mine so we knew the account wasn’t the problem. After a couple of emails here and there itiwas apparent that my iPad was the culprit. Therefore, he went to the offending name and tapped that and an edit board came up. He deleted/typed over the name and replaced mine. This has solved the problem. Thank goodness for the younger generation!
