Please help me recover my mum's facebook account

So my DM decided that she was not happy about the personalised ads on google and facebook showing her things she'd been looking at on the internet, felt it was a bit creepy. She decided to try to change her privacy settings - she thought she'd inadvertently deleted her account, but on investigation from me, she'd just logged out.

In the meantime she set up another account, but is quite upset that she's 'lost' all her photos, contacts etc on her old account. they include some pics she's not got saved anywhere else.

The thing is, she can't remember the password for her old account. It's on a very old email address (a blueyonder one) which now longer exists. Additionally the phone number she had registered also no longer exists. Therefore the standard 'recover your account' will not work.

I've had a search of the help centre in facebook and can not find a solution to this particular issue and there is no facility to ask facebook themselves how to solve this.

Anyone got any tips? Please?!

I can't help but I'm watching with interest. I did the same thing! There is a recovery option to send two.trusted people a code or something but I tried that several times and it didn't work sadly.

Yes - I think that trusted person is a fairly recentish thing and you have to have set up who the person would be. Argh. So annoying you can't get advice direct from fb.
Fingers crossed for us both that someone will have a solution!

If you were her fb friend you should be able to access any posts and pictures she allowed you to see and save them for her.

Your mother must have had 'keep me signed in', or 'remember me' on her account, otherwise, she would have had to sign in each time with account details and password. If your mother logged in using a laptop, and saved password details, you can access saved passwords by going in advanced settings, finding facebook account and revealing the password.

Good point LIZS - I do indeed still have access. Though she's been on it since about 2009 and that's a lot of stuff to go through! As a last resort though it is an option.
NobodysChild she accessed it solely via her iPad, not sure if there's a way to do what you suggested on that?

Thanks for all the tips!

  1. Open the ipad and find the Settings app. Tap on it to open.
  2. Scroll down the list until you see Accounts & Passwords, tap on it.
  3. At the top you will see App & Website Passwords, tap on it.
  4. You will be asked to verify who you are.
  5. Scroll down to find Facebook with the appropriate email address, tap on it.
  6. You will see the password.

Hope this helps

Widower, any chance you know how to do that on an android phone!

widowerbutok · 18/09/2018 00:39

Sorry Bufferingkisses no. I googled the question and checked it worked on my ipad. Can only suggest you google the question see if you can see a way.

Try this

shockedballoon · 18/09/2018 17:56

Thanks for all the tips everyone. Tried to get her old password but it wasn't saved on her iPad. I ended up getting in by getting DM to write down every password she could remember using for any internet thing (5 as it turns out) ever, then trying them all and various combinations of them on a theme. I got to about try 12 and struck lucky!
