going non-google

Having read 'Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now' by Jaron Lanier, a very persuasive book, I'm going to change my email provider to Kolab, and I'm trying to change my default browser to Duckduckgo.
I can go to it via google, but that's not what I want. When I try and do it on my laptop, it just gives me the options of firefox, internet explorer and chrome. Does anyone know how I can do this?
Plus, has anyone else tried going non-google, and how has it worked out?

DuckDuckGo looks like it’s a search engine rather than a browser so you’ll still need to use a browser such as Safari, Chrime, Firefox etc to access it. There are instructions on the DuckDuckGo website to tell you how to do this duck.co/help/desktop/firefox
