I'm wanting to put DS' iphone C5 sim card into a Samsung 2 for him to use, but they are different sizes. The iphone was is much smaller. Does that mean they're not compatible end of story?

I know when I got my SIM for my iPhone it was much too bit and it had to be cut down. Have you looked it up online?

I've tried but all the info overload just confuses me. I did see something about cutting one down...however I've got the opposite problem. The sim card that I need to go into the phone is too small.

You can cut a template out of plastic or get another free SIM card the right size, press the tiny bit out and swap it for yours. Phone shop will do it.

You can probably get a sim card adapter or if he is permanently going to be changing to the new phone you can ring your provider and they'll send you a new SIM in the correct size and put the number on it for you.

You should be able to get a SIM card adapter OP.

Oh the sim card adaptor looks good, hopefully that could work? The small sim isn't even the same size as the smaller bit of the bigger sim card that you can press out (if that makes any sense).

I don't understand how getting a new sim would work. All my son's data, phone number and contract allowance etc are on the iphone c5 sim card (now broken). Are you saying that if I call my son's contract provider and ask for a new sim in a bigger version, they will transfer all of that data onto a new sim?

I mean the phone is broken, not the sim card!

Yes they just do a sim swap. The number will move over and the tariff (data allowance/mins/text) will stay the same.

Great, thanks very much for your help Flowers

A new SIM would not have the contact details, etc. Hopefully it's all backed up to Apple and can be retrieved but, if not, the adapter would allow him to copy any contact details on the SIM to the new phone.

cakedup · 08/05/2018 15:58

Oh that's OK, he only has about 20 contacts on there anyway Grin

I changed my phone to an iPhone the other week. Before I went to buy it in the Apple store I popped into EE shop and asked them about it. I was told that they didn’t cut them down now. They asked to look at the card and said there was no need to change it as It could be taken apart. One part is green and the other white. Was told to get Apple to do it when I bought the phone. They did exactly that. The two colours just came apart. So the change to a smart phone was seamless.
