Hi, has anyone heard anything about yahoo closing email accounts of under 16 year olds due to new gdpr regulations coming into force? My dis got an email and is freaking out as all his logins for all his gaming and it related and social media is through his yahoo mail account, but I can't find anything about it so wondering if it has been a spam email

Oo hope not.
I have gmail accounts for my kids simply so their name is available once they're old enough to use email.

They may have misunderstood - in June Yahoo mail will remove inactive accounts. If you haven't logged in to Yahoo mail before June 12th it will be gone.

I think you actually need to log in to it rather than just use it to identify yourself.

Thanks cdtaylornats, no, it is quite clear. Here is an excerpt

"From 25 May 2018, we will only offer services to users whose age is above the minimum age your country determines that users may consent to the processing of their personal data. The minimum age in your country will be 16 years unless changes to the law take effect in the coming weeks.

Your account records indicate that you will be under 16 on 25 May 2018.

If you entered your date of birth incorrectly during the registration process, please click here to correct your date of birth in our system.

If you are under the minimum age on 25 May 2018, you will not be able to access your account after that date. Please click here to download your email data.

We are monitoring the law in your country, in case the minimum age changes. "

Okay - move his date of birth back a couple of years

How do you change your dob? Nthe yahoo help page says you need to open a new account. DS is in pieces - he's 15 and has all his gaming stuff linked to it.

That link doesn't take us to a link that works.

It states you can't change a date of birth. Dd has changed over all his gaming accounts to a gmail. All this will do is encourage kids to lie about their age when setting up online accounts.
