Tried in Chat but got no responses!
She'd like to invest in a 'proper' camera - at the moment she uses the (not particularly good) camera on her phone. Mostly she photographs very close up - she keeps bees & takes a lot of pictures of them, also other insects, lichens/mosses - that sort of thing. The pictures (surprise surprise) go on Instagram.
She's got some birthday money, plus a certain amount saved, could probably run to say £250 now, maybe up to £350 if she waits a bit as she'll be working more this summer after GCSEs.
We've spent quite a lot of time looking around, & found reviews of this Ricoh camera which she thought might fit the bill - the macro mode seems to be a particular strength. (We live by the sea, so the option to photograph while snorkelling would be a nice extra.) But neither of us know anything really about cameras, and reviews on the whole tend to the VERY technical grin
Any suggestions from tech-y MNers??? She'd also happily buy 2nd hand on ebay if she knew what to look for.
