I have a massive WAV file to listen to on a USB stick. 8 hours plus!
A lot of it will be silent.
Does anyone know if there is an app I can download on to my PC which will show ‘activity’ so that I don’t have to sit through the silence.
I am a complete novice when it comes to anything like this.
Any advice very much appreciated.

Audacity is a free program you could try. You import the wav file into it and then it shows you a timeline with the sound waves. Where there is sound it will show wiggly lines and where it's silent it will just be a flat horizontal line. You can then just scroll along and skip those bits.
