For DD1 who is 14.

So for school work, Netflix and SIMS 4.

I’m not very tech savvy and want the best fir my money.

I've been quite happy with this - I use Libreoffice which is free.

That particular laptop linked to above is only going to be capable of playing Sims 4 at the low quality video setting and will likely still end up getting rather hot. Sadly, even an older game like that (2014?) is still going to need a higher spec laptop than you'll get for £300. Does she need to take it to school, or do you mean for homework? You'd get more performance for your money in a desktop.

It happily plays Civ5 and Civ6 and has now been running continuously for 6 weeks without getting hot.

Not tried or looked into Civ 6, but my 6 year old laptop with integrated Intel graphics runs Civ 5 fine. Not a hope of it coping with Sims 4.

The laptop linked to above is sadly the best you'll get for £300. As said by a PP, even older games like Sims won't work very well with a dual core 2.5 GHz processor.
