Deleting photos from Iphone

I would like to delete my photos to free up storage but I want to keep the photos in ICloud. I have googled but can’t find the answer - doesn’t help that I’m not very savvy.
Can anyone please help.

Watching as I always manage to delete them off iCloud too!!

If you have amazon prime you can download an app called " amazon photos" it's brilliant and unlimited storage .. I use it all the time!
