Do you ever feel unpopular?

In generally I really don’t care, but sometimes I think about it and I wonder what makes someone ‘popular’. For example, let’s say I posted a pregnancy announcement on Facebook and my mum will ‘like’ it. But my neighbour will post a picture of her dinner and the world raves about it. I’ve got about 4 friends. I don’t have enough time for even those 4. So how do other people have 15+?

Err, I know I sound like I’m 15, but I’m actually 31!

Also, I bet no one replies to this thread. Because I’m unpopular 😂

Personally, I can't be bothered being popular. I prefer a few good friend. I don't have Facebook so I can't compare how many friends I have.

Likes on Facebook are meaningless really. Perhaps the neighbour who gets zillions of likes because she has a huge family, had loads of contacts through work and makes a huge effort to like everything else that everyone else likes.

Yes- but i don’t really care. I have never been one for beingg ‘popular’. I don’t feel the need foe tens of pals, and am much happier with one or two close friends. Again these
tend to be unconventional friendships whereby we can go months without seeing each other but i know that they are there for me anytime, and vice versa.

For Facebook you should Google "organic reach", basically it's about most people not even seeing your post in the first place.

At least you have some friends on Facebook. I don't and I only get really crummy suggestions to connect with people on other continents and who speak in languages not written with Latin letters... I think it has to do with this en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect

If you have four IRL friends you should count yourself lucky, treasure your friends, and stop thinking about why someone else has 15, 150, or 1500 names on their contact list. ...

They might have lots of contacts but it doesn't mean they ever see these people. You may find someone with 15 contacts is jealous of your 4 real friends! Also remember people only post what they want you to see on social media. The good (show off) or the bad (sympathy). Not the normal/mundane. It's all self propaganda. Don't believe it's real!

I found that when I post stuff on Facebook (which I do rarely), I'm checking lots to see how much people 'like' it. Which is pretty pathetic - I'm worth more than a few clicks (and so are you). Given I live with DH and DD, I can happily spend at least some days each week not properly seeing anyone else (I'd chat to other parents at the school gate, but that's only for 5 minutes). I have friends who want to be with others all the time. The latter have more exciting lives on social media too. I'm not popular, but I no longer want to be, and that helps. (yes, I'm a geek)
