Calling MacBook Pro experts

My MacBook Pro is dying and I need to get another. I usually go all out with customizing but now money is tight and I’m wondering if I can get away with the basic pro.

So the 13 inch is 2.3 GHz dual- core intel core i5 processor, 8GB, and 256 GB SSD storage.

I work online , mainly writing, and will be using it primarily for research and writing.

Is it powerful enough?

Also, do all MacBook pros now have a retina screen?

A standard Apple mac would be enough. You don’t need the pro for what you do.

Can I hijack to ask what a MacBook Pro would be needed for? I was going to post a thread asking where to buy one with a good deal (refurbished is fine) for my daughter. She works from home but doesn’t seem to need it to do any more than @rabaria does. Perhaps she would be fine with a standard Apple Mac too?

I do the same stuff as you and have a macbook air - was a fair bit cheaper and does the same job, as far as I can see.
