How do I connect a dvd player to an ancient non-scart tv?

I have an ancient big wooden box TV (I don't want to get rid of) without a scart socket. We've been using a dvd/vcr combi with an old fashioned aerial socket type connecting plug, but the DVD part has packed up. Now, I don't want to buy another combi player because they're so expensive but basic DVD players are supercheap nowadays. Trouble is I think they all come with scart leads. Does anyone know if there's some kind of adapter I can use?

NO idea but I have an old tv with no scart too so will be watching!

You can buy a thingy that goes on one end of the scart lead. And I do believe that thingy is the correct technical term for this, so don't hesitate to go into to Dixons to ask for one

hmmmmmmm Dixons assistants.... yesss they're always really helpful aren't they?

DO YOU HAVE ` any other holes ??????

princesscc · 19/04/2007 22:44

You need to put a video record on it via the ariel first, then you can put a scart lead from dvd to video to tv. As long as the video is on you should be able to get the dvd to work.

princesscc · 19/04/2007 22:45

That should have been video recordER not record!

treacletart · 19/04/2007 22:47

ooooooh intersting.... so, If I keep my old dvd/video combi and link a new dvd to it with its new scart lead, it should all work ok? Is that right?

We got our scart connecter thingy from Argos I believe or maybe it was COmet or Currys... We have connected the DVD player and a different video player to old our old ciombi tv (the video on that was broken long ago)

WendyWeber · 19/04/2007 22:57

Can you get a lead with a scart one end and aerial plug the other end?

princesscc · 19/04/2007 23:01

DH says no, you can't WW! He should know, he's an electrician

vimfuego · 19/04/2007 23:30

This product will do it for you

clerkKent · 20/04/2007 12:48

Here is another one (or just google "scart converter" yours for a fiver .

I thought there must be products like this, since the Wii come with one!

vimfuego · 20/04/2007 12:52

Not really the same device, clarky. That will convert composite cables to SCART. The OP doens't have a SCART telly she needs a SCART (box-shaped connector) to RF (telly aerial) converter, also known as a "modulator".

clerkKent · 20/04/2007 13:04

Fair enough.... the same site has a UHF Modulator.

babyonboard · 23/04/2007 11:03

Does the dvd player have a tv out socket?
If so you can get an s video cable (tv out to composite) and that should work.
