My storage is full on my iPhone so thought I'd get iCloud as a way of storing pics as that is where most of my storage is used.
I only use my phone not a desktop etc.
Set up iCloud but when I try to add pics to iCloud Drive, all fine. When I try to delete them from my phone it says it will delete them from icloud. Baffled. I've googled and can someone put it absolutely fool proof terms.

I don't think it works that way - iCloud is a copy of what's on your phone, in case you lose or break your phone. Only way I know of would be to use a computer to take the phones off then store (and back up) on the computer / cd / memory key.

I still don't understand this and I don't think I want to Confused I've been paying for fancy i cloud for ages now and been deleting pictures and videos on my phone thinking they are backed up in the cloud so just making space on my phone.

This means I've just permanently deleted those memories with no chance of getting them back?? Gutting

ICloud is more for backing up and syncing what’s currently in your apple devices. To back up and keep copies of your photos i’d Install the google photos app, it’s free and will backup and keep the photos even if you delete them from your phone.
