Home automation - lights?

My DH has a thing about switching everything off, especially lights, every time someone leaves a room.

His stress levels would be massively reduced if we could find a way to either centrally control the lights (eg a way to turn them all off, or to turn them off by area of the house, esp bedrooms), or otherwise to ensure that lights don't remain on in empty rooms.
Any suggestions?

Not an expert but you can buy lightbulbs you turn off with your phone. So you can see which lights are still on/off

That sounds easy and exactly what I need. Will have to investigate.

Spoke to the resident expert in my family. He said Samsung smart things or Apple home kit obviously these depend on mobile phones I assume. But both those things allow you to turn lights on and off. He even has sensors that tell you if your doors/windows are open closed or even locked.

We have a lutron lighting system. One of the buttons we have is everything off - we have them by our bed and front and side door. We can also turn off just one floor. Not sure if they can be installed easily restrospectively - we had lots of cable installed when the house was extended and I think some were for that ( fancy electronics were on dh wish list so I didn't pay much attention)

Thanks for the replies it will have to be an easy retrofit but seems like there are a few options.
