Iphone - storage issues

so, my phone is telling me storage is almost full.
have deleted some pictures...
now can't access mail as it says 'storage almost full' and directs me to settings. settings directs me back to mail to free up strorage.
how can I get to mail to delete large sent items?

You need to delete something else to give your iPhone enough memory to open mail. Get rid of an app or something and then reinstall when you've got into mail!

Presuming you're using an iphone you also have to delete the photos from the 'recently deleted' folder. It's a folder where all deleted photos automatically go, and after 30 days they're permanently deleted. If I remember correctly this will be contributing to your lack of space. Also good to delete any video footage or transfer it onto a laptop/hard drive to store it. Depending what email you use (gmail, hotmail etc.) it might also be worth emptying your spam folder regularly or automating an empty every fortnight or so.
