Teenager - how much for mobile phone per month?

Just that really - currently we pay £10 per month for 14 year old's mobile. The DC is over-spending some months. We could get a much more generous package for £20 per month....but should we just tell them to manage it better? What are other kids that age getting covered on mobiles?

My 14yo has a £5 package with iD Mobile.
Gives him the following (brackets figures are how much he has left this month - runs from 9 May - 8 Jun)

250 mins (246 left)
5,000 texts (4,564 left)
1Gb data (0.2 left)

Phone was purchased outright as a birthday present so this is just the contract.

O2 - £15 unlimited calls and texts and more than enough data i.e never gone over limit.

Should have said the £15 is for phone and package over 24 months

Ds is 16 and has his own phone (Moto-G: bought as a birthday present then he had to replace it with his own money when he left it in a changing room and it was stolen or he lost it).

He's on a Tesco SIM only 12 month rolling contract at £7.50/month. It's capped at £10 and I set it up for him to get warnings when he went above his contract but he says he's never had a warning (and I'd see anyway on my credit card).

He was on PAYG initially so got very good at not using his data and using free wifi where he can.

I did however have to change our broadband contract at home to unlimited as he was looking at so many videos rugby geek

Thanks everyone, that is all very helpful. In case anyone's interested we're going to stick with £10 and a absolute data cap each month. I think he needs to learn to manage his use of data and understand that when he hits his limit each month it's gone until he can get on wi-fi.
