Unable to block email spammer

Have tried to block email, and it looks as if it has, and also I have unsubscribed. Continue to get a couple of emails a day. I know this is trivial, but why have unsubscribe if you don't honour it? No idea why the block won't work. As far as I can see, they are spamming me from the same email that is 'blocked'. It's LivingSocial if that makes any difference...any advice gratefully received.

One way is to set up a "rule" throwing their emails in the bin straight away. The ultimate option however is to switch email address. I've done it once because of lots of spam with one internet provider.

Ok thanks fifty. Do you mean mark as spam, and eventually it becomes a rule? Doesn't seem to be working. Reluctant to swop email addresses, but might have to....although I could, as this is my second email. I'm wondering how they get round the 'normal' system, cos what I've done seems to have worked with everyone else!

Maybe you could create a rule containing some word that shows up frequently, but is not used by others. It's difficult. I ultimately had to switch email address and provider.

Don't unsubscribe from spams! That simply validates that your email address is active - and that encourages them (and anyone they sell your address to). Only unsubscribe from mailshots that you actually did once subscribe to.

It was a mail shot I subscribed to at one point. I have heard this about validating email. How do I create a 'rule'? Or do I need to JFGI

Dealing with spam and setting up rules depends how you access your emails. Do you use webmail (reading it in a browser window, and if so, which service - such as Gmail) or email software (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird).

Outlook: Select the spam email, right-click, choose Junk from the drop menu, and click Block Sender. Or, Select Home > Junk > Block Sender.

However, there seem to be lots of reports of the spam filtering not working in Outlook!

If the sender is a UK company, you might report them to the ICo. See ico.org.uk/for-the-public/online/spam-emails/

If a US company, report them to the FTC www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0038-spam

i find it works better if you block at source ie mark as spam in hotmail itself.

Have tried all those options except reporting to ICO. Not working, so will have a go at ICO. Thanks!
