Just panicking a bit - FB Messenger security on an iPhone?

Can someone reassure me that there's no way someone else can access my private messages on FB Messenger?

Depends if you've ever given anyone else your password or logged in on another device.

Also the person you have sent a private message to could send it to someone else.

No never given out my password or logged in on another device.

Not without your email address and password.

There's a 'security check up' option in Facebook settings that will show you any devices that have used your account recently. You could check that If you're worried.

Why would having my email address give access to FB messenger?

Becsuse you log in using your email address & Facebook password.
