Problem with new printer and my mac sierra

Had Hp Office Jet Pro 6970 delivered today. Followed set up instructions, downloaded software as instructed and all seemed well. Told installation was complete and then I tried IPad and the printer printed quickly and well. Now looking at my Mac Sierra but there is no sign of my printer but software downloads are there. I tapped the plus sign next to printers and up came something to type name of model on. However, It will not allow me to type. I have tried several times, clicking on the right hand side but nothing happens. Has any clever person got any idea what has happened?
I installed it in wi fi mode. The wi fi address came up and all seemed well and when the iPad worked I thought all was well. Help really appreciated as I am stumped. Thank you for reading this.

Best of luck.

Thank you both for answering. I will be having another go tomorrow morning. Thank you widower. That link looks useful. There is an app to be downloaded so hope that helps. I am so untechnical this is a headache to me. I've got the set up installations on the Mac display so perhaps I just need this extra driver.

Cdtay, thank you for replying. My mac is about 14 months old and it has just been updated to OS Sierra 10.12.3 so not on your list.
