Which TV box?

DH and I have recently moved back to the U.K. After 30 years abroad andI am totally confused by the television. In our accommodation we have "inherited " a television and a sky box which we don't pay any subscription for so is just the very basic package.
All I would like to do is record programmes and be able to pause live TV. We're not interested in having loads of channels.
Someone recommended an amazon fire stick which i have installed and its good for accessing catch up but I can't record or pause.
Do anyone have any recommendations ?
Someone also mentioned Freeview, do we need a box for that and where can we get one?
Thanks

You would need a freeview plus to be able to record I think. Most major retailers like Tesco etc will sell.

Is it a one off purchase or a monthly subscription ?

A one off. But you may need a figital aerial if signal is poor.

Or if you have a satellite dish (presuming you have as you have sky) you could get a freesat plus box. You can record and pause live tv. Could be an option if your aerial needs upgrading.
