  1. I work in a 24 hr supermarket and it's really winding me up when people get arsey when I tell them I am closing my checkout to go home at 10pm at night. I feel like thumping them due to the mouthfuls I sometimes get and dirty looks - I have a home to go to too you know!!
  1. Those people who are real living examples of the characters in C4 "Shameless" - do they get the joke of how awful they are? Or do they think the programme is a docusoap??
  1. People wasting my time applying for job vacancies with Dh and mine's business who dont show up for interview just so they can be seen to be looking for work in order not to have money cut down!! Losers!!

i used to work on checkouts too but i soon developed a thick skin. you jsut have to think that they must think you actually live there

have not seen shameless so can't comment on that one but there are some "characters" about aren't there?! lol

when i had to claim (am working now), i always turned up for an interview if one was offered, it's bad manners not to. but from the other side of things, there aren't that many businesses who reply to requests for an interview either

Twoandabump · 15/02/2007 13:33

I had a bloke turn up for an interview and told me that he shouldn't get the job as he was lazy and always late!! He also said he was just doing it to keep getting his money as well.

Needless to say, I phoned up and told them about it!

fransmom · 17/02/2007 23:34

but then at you telling

suzycreamcheese · 18/02/2007 00:11

at grassing them up..

...the dole is important income for musicians and artists..
i'd be annoyed at anyone time wasting but not am not a snitch..

CurlyN · 18/02/2007 00:37

this really isn't good, but customers/guests got the better of me. I was a holiday rep, and this older more mature chap (also a rep but for a different company) told me NEVER EVER take shit, your not paid enough, but, make sure no one ever hears the conversation. SO i told two guests that IMO and that of others, who were taking the piss, up grades, complaining, really unnecessarily, to Fk O, I'd had enough of them. and heres your 2p back that goes towards my wages!

hunkermunker · 18/02/2007 00:39

What's wrong with working as a waiter if you're an artist or musician?

If you're any good, you won't need the dole!

suzycreamcheese · 18/02/2007 01:15

hunkermunker...they dont pay enough to keep a church mouse fed and sheltered...

nearlyfourbob · 18/02/2007 05:15

I got housing benefit when I graduated (am musician). I worked a few hours a week as a lecturer and the money for that cancelled out my dole, which was fine by me. I just couldn't get enough hours initially to be completely self financing. However being a waiter could have meant that my training was completely wasted, as I would have had to turn down the few gigs I was offered so as to be reliable in a job I wasn't trained to do.

However unless things have changed you were allowed to only apply for things you were qualified for - so I used to show up and honestly say that I'd applied to the Halle Orchestra or for an arts admin job, and then declare my lecturing income and be on my way.

They never even tried to get me a manual job, almost to the point of obstructiveness.

hunkermunker · 18/02/2007 11:29

I'm not sure why they should claim the dole then.

Poor tortured artists having to live off the state for their art?

3andnomore · 18/02/2007 11:51

not being funny, and feel for the artist...but...still doesn't make it right...does it?

Aloha · 18/02/2007 11:54

Who said he was an artist? Good for you for giving feedback. The idea that I should pay tax to keep a perfectly healthy adult on the dole
I have worked as a chambermaid, waitress, shop assistant, office temp...anything. It's bloody good life experience.

3andnomore · 18/02/2007 11:55

oh and to OP

  1. Some people are just rude and stupid...don't let them get to you! I don't think it's a 10pm thing though, people can always get funny when the till they decided was nice and empty is also the one that is closing down (hence it being nice and empty, lol)
  2. no idea...never watched that programme!
  3. Plain rude again....
