iPad/iPhone and email issues

I have an iPad, and a new iphone6. I also have a hotmail.com account. It has had the same password for a long time. This morning my iPad and iPhone won't connect to Mail because they say the password is incorrect. I am being directed to settings.
The password hasn't changed! I can go on to safari and search for hotmail and log in that way, so I don't understand what's going on. My iPhone is doing it too...presumably because they're connected?
Can someone please help?

Thank you so much! Hasn't resolved the issue completely, but I've downloaded the outlook app so at least I can see emails on iPad again.
