Best podcasting platform - help needed please

I have been tasked with learning how to produce podcasts and share them on a free platform which can be easily accessed inside and outside the UK. Can anyone help? Should I use iTunes or Soundcloud or something else? What equipment do I need?

Thanks, that looks good and I will give it a read. Everything I spotted that looked good - like this - was two years old. But I probably should read it anyway, I just wanted the latest advice.

This one is from last year, a LOT of technical detail.

That is so detailed that I am wishing I hadn't accidentally agreed to do this.
