iPhone5c sim card wont work in HTC phone

Hi, my son broke his iPhone5c so i put his sim card into my old HTC phone, anyway its recognised the sim because its saying giffgaff at top of phone but he cant make/recieve texts and calls, hoping someone can help, thanks.

Have you tried resetting the phone to factory condition? That will delete all the data (contacts, photos, etc.) but if it is objecting to having a different SIM card that may solve the problem.

Another possibility that springs to mind is that the phone may be network locked. If the previous SIM was O2 or giffgaff it should be ok but if it was another network you may need to go to that network and get an unlock code from them.
