Converting from an iphone4 to an iphone5 for docking station

Do I need to buy an Apple one for £40 or is there a cheaper alternative?

We have one of these, about £5 on eBay.

The bottom is an iPhone 4 slot and you just pop it on the dock

Is any brand better - or just anything?

I've had 3rd party adaptors and cables before; they never last as long as the Apple ones, and I've had two exactly the same one of which worked and the other didn't. The apple 30-pin to lightning adaptor is £25, not £40, in the Apple Store
