I have a reasonably new Canon ip7260 printer It used the original cartridges that came with it so I replaced and now the printer won't work The orange light flashes 3 times then the white light flashes once. Any ideas what wrong with it. Searched for paper jams etc but weren't any

Confirm model number, as can't find 7260?

The page to which Ferguson links is a list of error codes, not model numbers.

The manual for the IP7260 does not list this as a possible error code. Three flashes of the orange lamp means a paper jam. Alternate flashes of the orange alarm lamp and the white power lamp are a more serious fault which means the printer needs to go to a Canon service centre.

Three flashes of the orange lamp followed by a single flash of the white lamp is not listed. But if that is what you are getting I would say your printer needs to go to a service centre.

I only queried the model number, because Canon site said it couldn't find IP7260 !

There are no service centre here Nearest one is 5-6 hrs drive away and Canon couldn't help me with getting it fixed even though its still under warranty

Have you tried talking to the retailer who sold you the printer? Your legal rights are against the retailer, not Canon.
