iPhone won't charge

I thought it was my chargers at fault, but then the iPad charges fine.

I took my phone to an independent shop to have the glass screen replaced (had cracked and smashed during the week - still worked perfectly though).

Switched it off completely on handing it over. When I collected, it was switched on and had somehow been accessed (so password had been bypassed). I have no problems with this - just mentioning it in case it's relevant.

Charge was dropping soon after, it charged maybe a few percent, but then dropped gradually until nothing. It's flat and won't accept any charge. Any ideas?

Likely that they've damaged the connector for the dock port on the main board when taking it off to replace the screen. Easy thing to do if in-experienced. Or it may be just the connector itself if they're lucky. Either way it needs to go back to them. I would question why on earth the felt the need to bypass your lock code also. No need to do access the phone when replacing a screen. Probably wanted a root through your stuff... Confused

Is the new phone the same serial number as the one you sent in for repair.

How do I check? I have the serial number written down somewhere.
Is there anyway I can use my number and contacts? I use it a lot for work and I have a spare iPhone 4.

Wilford - I'll go back in tomorrow I'll send my DH but they'll probably end up charging me, won't they? Gutted.

If you know the SN of the one you gave in, check the one you have now by going to settings, general, about, then scroll down a bit.
It's probably not what I'm thinking but it could be a bit of a con where they swap phones for damaged ones and move your data over. It probably isn't that and as other poster said maybe they've just knocked something inside but just would explain password being removed etc.
Hopefully I'm being an idiot and the SN are the same!

Sounds a bit dodge to me!

But in less suspicious circs i'd say try charging it via the lap top usb.

My phone (albeit a samsung) phone battery is past its best (5 years old) and wont charge on a mains charger, but will charge on the lap top. ~Have no idea why, but worth a try.

Frustrating afternoon.
LEM, I tried what you suggested and it seemed to work, but it only ever charged up to 7% and nothing more. I tried my car stereo, it charged to 5% then it eventually dwindled to nothing. Now it's totally flat.

A few days ago, I went to a different store to get the screen repaired. Nice chap took all my details before telling me that it would be a 5 hr wait. I couldn't hang on so I left. When taking my details, he did the #06# on the one app and it gave him, he informed me, the iPhone's IMEI number. I still have a copy of it luckily enough on the discharge receipt he gave me.

When my iPhone was at 5%, I quickly tried to do the same before the battery died. So, I typed #06# only to be given the message "Error Perfoming Request. Unknown Error."

I'm getting suspicious, given what you told me earlier. Has the shop swapped my iPhone with one that has a duff battery/knackered charging area?

I should add, that I was hoping the IMEI number was exactly the same, thus reassuring me that it was indeed the same phone.

Where did you type the #06# thing and I'll try on my phone (though it's a 6) and see what happens my end.
I'd go back to shop and explain. See what they say. In the mean time try to get some charge on it (somehow) to check those numbers. Blow in the hole, can you wipe it with a dry cotton bud? Hold cable in the hole and move it around til it starts to change and keep really still and see if you get enough on it? At least then you can check the numbers.
Does friend/family/neighbour have same charger so you can try theirs to check it's just not bad timing for your cable to break?

Strangely enough, when giving one last vain attempt, I switched it on and on it came at 67%!!! After only 10 minutes though it's already down to 52%. LEM, I'm convinced something is amiss but how do I prove it?

Aaaargh what a numpty!
It's *#06# - type the star symbol before the hash key.

My IMEI is exactly the same so there's been no swapping. Still doesn't account for why my battery is suddenly failing quickly not why it's really odd when charging or NOT charging as the case may be

Sorry I have no idea how you can check that. Hopefully someone else will know.
It could be something really simple as they have knocked something inside. I'd go back to shop and talk to them.

So you've been using your iPad charger to charge your phone? This is a huge no-no isn't it and can blow your battery? Exactly the same thing happened to me and I was told it was because the iPad charger is too powerful for an iPhone!

Sorry CheckedMate that's not true. The iPad charger has a higher current rating, but there's no way it can overcharge an iPhone or any other 5V device

Well, I'm taking it back tomorrow. It only charged yesterday when it was switched off, and it takes a charge from nowhere else. This is a right pain since I cannot be contacted now whilst it's off. I'm betting they'll charge me, right?

I've not managed to get back to the shop and the phone is terrible at holding a charge and I must switch it off totally in order for it to receive charge. It's a right pain. Am anxious the they'll try to fob me off and cost me another fortune.
