So you're in the Mail application, I take it? I think it will either save the photo by default to Downloads or a folder called Photos.

What you probably want to do then is import the photo into iPhoto - I haven't used iPhoto for years but from memory this is designed to store all the photos you capture on your iPhone, rather than any image on the hard disk of your Macbook? But you can certain add it in and then create an album.

Do you already have photos on your Macbook or is this the first one? There are lots of other options for photo storage/organising into albums.

Btw you should have a smart search called All Files which will show you all the files (well, obviously I guess!) on your machine, in date order, so this can be a good way of finding new files when you're not sure where they are on the machine and you don't know the name of the file.

If you save something from an email, it will appear in 'downloads' folder. If you have a macbook, do you have iPhoto? If so, open iPhoto and drag the photo from your downloads folder into the iPhoto window.

Great, thank you :-) I will go and try now.

I have loads of totally disorganised photos in iPhoto, as they automatically go there from my iPhone. But albums are another challenge!

Just to add to the other comments, if you have a mouse, right click on the attachment and you will see options on saving the picture.
