Another recommend a laptop thread

I need a new laptop, it will only be me using it.
I will use it for surfing the mums net, some work ie Excel & Word and essay writing.

I will also use it for music, the equivalent of 2000 albums at a guess.

DD has a basic hp that is good.

How much memory will I need? Any suggestions?

Do you have to use Word and Excel or could you use Open Office or Apples productivity apps? Do you need compatibility with other peoples documents of college systems?

You need to decide between a 13", 15" or 17" screen balancing portablity and screen size.

I will also use it for music, the equivalent of 2000 albums at a guess.
That's about 100GB so a 500GB laptop will be fine you may want to avoid an ultraportable as they often have smaller solid state disks.
