Help - how to relink iPad and iPhone

I've de linked them, and want them re linked, but to do this, the iPhone says it needs me to input a password/code from the iPad.

Now I think I remember a dialogue box popping up with a code, but it vanished after a few seconds (and I didn't think to screen shot it). Will it have been stored anywhere else? Where?

Or do I need to log in to Apple ID? If so, will it be there, and if so where?

And is there a proper name for this it?

Keen iPhone/iPad user here, but I'm not sure what you really mean by 'linking' them. What are you trying to do? What can you not do, because they are not linked?

Are you using the phone to provide a WiFi signal for the iPad or...?

Sorry!

I want the iMessages etc to show on both (there are a few services that are bundled together IYSWIM, and what you do on one shows on the other) ditto safari - so recent pages looked at on one device can be seen on the other without having to re-search. Also, it used to tell me recent calls (but I'm less bothered about that feature).

The place that is asking for the code is in settings/privacy for iMessage.

They both run from the same Apple ID.

Ah, that certainly happens on mine, but i don't remember ever actually doing anytime about it and am a bit afraid to fiddle incase i turn it off by accident. Sorry, can't help, hope you get it sorted.

Someone knowledgable will be along in a second.

Hope you get it sorted.

Are you meaning that you want to sync your iphone and iPad?

If so, you need to use iCloud.

Sorry, posted too soon. This tutorial might help if that's what you're after.

Thanks!

I've had a fiddle, and will find out tomorrow (as a I doubt anyone will be texting tonight) if it's made any difference.

Hi OP. Don't know if you're still having issues but I just spent half an hour solving this on my iPhone/iPad and remembered the question coming up here so thought I would post my solution.

I was unable to get the code on my iPad either so what I did was reboot both devices, then on the iPhone only, go to Settings and turn OFF Messages. Then go to Settings - General - Reset and then press Reset Network Settings (make sure you have a note of your WiFi password to hand as this will wipe it). This will reboot the phone again and when it comes back up, go and re-enter the WiFi password in Settings. Then turn Messages back on (and make sure you're logged in to your apple account), then go to Text Message Forwarding (if it isn't showing up then exit the Settings app, close it down completely and then reopen it) and choose the slide button for you iPad which will bring up the request for a code. Hopefully now your iPad will display the code, you enter it and voila!

Belated thanks!

I managed to get safari and (blue) iMessages resynched easily.

I haven't tried your steps, Talesin and was wondering if that also shares (green ie text) iMessages, or if that's possible only between iPhones not iPhone/iPad combo?
