Broadband virgin - where do I start?!

All I want is broadband internet so I can play some of my Xbox games online, and watch Netflix, which is potentially going to be 'borrowed' from a friend as they allow Netflix subscribers 4 or 5 logins for friends.

I don't want a phone line, tele package, or any mobile deals.

I'd like as short a contract as possible just in case it's all awful.

I don't know anything about speeds, etc.

I've read reviews - every provider seems as bad as the other according to them.

The only one I can find that doesn't make me take a phone line too is Virgin, but they have terrible recent reviews.

My current mobile provider is with BT. £10 a month. Lovely. I'm happy.
I have an iPad at home and use 3mobile mifi gadget thing, £15 a month. It always runs out a few days before the end of the month.

Can anyone help? I'm blinded with science now and want to scream?

You are going to need a fixed phone line, even if you don't take the phone service. Sky and Plusnet don't require you to take their phone service.

Virgin fibre is the best broadband, by far. I wouldn't worry about the negative reviews, I've been with them for 7 years and never had a problem, don't know anyone else who has either? And as you said, you don't need a phone line.

Our Virgin broadband is fast and my friend has only broadband because it's cabled. You just need to make sure you have Virgin in your area.

Ohi see you have that 3mobile thing. I thought maybe you used dial up like it was 2004 or something!

With virgin you'll probably find you get a better deal taking the phone and Internet even if you don't use the phone.

We've been with Virgin since 1997/8. For BB they were good, with quite good speeds and pretty reliable. Unfortunately they no longer provide BB through the phone line, only via cable, so if you're cabled up in your area you'll be fine. We aren't and have been hived off to TalkTalk who are dreadful.

It's veryy annoying as we've had ourr virgin.net email addresses for so long that everyone we've ever met knows them, and sometimes we get speculative emails from people we actually haven't seen or from for 15 years wondering if we're still using that address. We've had some nice reunions from it, and dh has had work out of the blue too.

Anyway, if we had cable here, I'd recommend Virgin to you no prob. As it is, I think they're shit
