Is there such a thing as a cheap MP3?

DD's are too young for iPods but I'd love to download some books onto something they can listen to separately on holiday. There's 3 years between them and they have different reading tastes.
Is there such a thing as
cheap MP3's?

Most phones will take mp3s, even the cheapies. I was looking for an mp3 player for my 11 year old a year back and discovered it was cheaper to buy a ten quid phone and stick a memory card in it. Also, it had the advantage of a camera. PAYG, so with no credit, it barely gets used as a phone anyway.
