Anyone suddenly had their home page changed to search.protectio.com?

Sat down at pc this morning and instead of google home page coming up I got this search.protectio.com.

Managed to get a google page and looked it up. Found something that said it was a virus and detailed how to get rid of it. Some of the steps didn't work and halfway through wondered if that page itself was malware.

Took ages to unset protectio as my homepage, but I've got it back to google. But nowhere can I find anything to delete to stop it happening again. It isn't in the programmes on the pc. What would it be linked to?

It's probably malware. Have you got a virus scanner? Is it decent, and set to run regularly?

Run a full scan. If it doesn't find anything, you might need to download and run MalwareBytes, but see if your current antivirus can do it first.

Be careful about logging into banking/emails/etc whilst your PC is infected. Most malware is relatively harmless and just irritating, but some is less so.

Check in your extensions (history then scroll for extensions) it's probably hiding in there. Had to get rid of something similar for dh the other day.
